i will never forget the image of steve irwin talking to the camera while sharks were in a feeding frenzy all around him while he stood in the water...the guy was a crazy kook but he was fascinating, funny and very entertaining...i kind of felt one day his luck would run out the way he took risks dealing with wildlife but i would never have guessed it would take a stingray to be the culprit....my condolences to his friends and family....he was one of a kind and his legacy will continue as his shows run on animal planet

I just found out the horrible news. Did you no their have been only two other deaths by a stingray reported in Australia? My heart goes out to his family. His little girl is around my daughters age. My daughter is almost 6, my son is 4. I told them and they both were terribly upset. My daughter suggests we send the children carebears. But im not sure how to do that. At least he died donig what he loved to do. And he really helped the causes of the animals. The animals have lost a great alli. I am so very sad.I also always feared that somthing like this would happen. Like getting bit by a crock or a poisonis snake.

I loved the fact that he had such a passion for his job, and that passion I'm sure rubbed off onto a lot of other people, including me. I am not about to get anywhere close to a cobra, an alligator or a sting ray, but I must admitt I loved watching him do it. His wife and especially his kids are in my prayers. They've lost a terrific husband and dad, and I sure they know it.

It is indeed a tragedy! That man has given a tremendous amount of his life to wildlife conservation. He'll be sorely missed by the world. The only solace is that he died doing what he loved most. Besides his family of course.

Steve Irwin is bigger than life. He knew what he stood for and he knew what he stood against. He will be missed.

I have to reflect on those who do not yet know the meaning of life and their own mortality. Let us not be well wishers to those who have started that journey, for each of us is standing in the line, we know not where.

Very sad! I was in shock! It seems to me to be too rare to be true, especially to a great person like him. I'll be sure to watch all his croc files and stuff on animals planet. He was so cool. I feal so bad for his wife and kids.

He died doing what he loved and doing that for so many years did great things for wildlife, education of the public, and the zoo he works at.

He lived and died a good man and he will be missed.

I agree. I can't believe it. I feel bad for Terry, Bindi, and Bob. Also, his best friend Wedge. I can't imagine what they must feel right now. I have to wonder if Wedge or Terry will take over in his place and continue his legacy or if Bindi or Bob will grow up to do so. Tragic, tragic loss!

yes it is very tragic, but he died doing what he loves. Very few people do. Also it is my belief that it was a very quick death. He was an awesome person, and though I never meet him, he had that personality like you knew him after only seeing him a short time. The world will miss him, and my feelings go out to those that are left behind like his wife and son.
