I just relaxed my hair, after a year or so, I wore some twists in the natural and some family members did not approve. I'm grown and I am fully aware that some blacks have become "Americanized". The straight hair lets them fit in, allows them to have man run fingers in the hair. It's all superficial. I told someone that Whites wear their hair in the natural all the time, why can't we? Blacks do have a self hate, right down to the platinum blond hair and French manicures, we have to love every bit of ourselves. A white guy who had a crush on me said, he loved my locks, because "they were different, and bouncy, and fun"

OK i have a relaxer but i told my mom i really don't like relaxers and i think that those people who act like oh good hair are thinking in the old days .let me tell you this my grand mom had told my older sister that her baby has good hair and my other sister did not like that she said that the baby had good and my sister who had the baby when she was that age had bad hair then we both had told my mom and my mom said she's thinking back in those old days when people thought having hair that look like white people hair was good hair and then my mom said it dose not matter what kind of hair you got all hair is GOOD HAIR.

Good question! Unfortunately, no one really knows the answer to it.
Do your own thing; adopt the style that pleases you, and don't worry what the self-haters think...Pam Grier afros are sexy!

Do you seriously even need to ask this question? Some people just live in ignorance...simple as that. If it works for you, then go for it. Or it may be a subtle way of telling you that the look you're going for now is NOT becoming.

Ever see Barbie dolls? What do their figures have to do with the average?
Advertising and media / celebrity images have a lot to do with it. Suggest you pick up some books / images of contemporary African fashion ... and you might appreciate the difference.
We all God's beautiful children, child! Just like he made us. And, anyway, at the end of the day ... that physical beauty ... well it all goes away ... and what's left is only all that's inside.
If your friends are so shallow ... find some more 'alternative' types to hang with.

I have wondered why there are so few black girls with "natural" hair. I think it looks great. AND it looks real-not like MTV or some other such phony superficial nonsense. When I was young, women wore their hair natural with pride, but I think it's better, to some women, to be like Destiny's Child then to be proud of who they are.
Besides, who really needs all those harsh chemicals!!!

I'd say it has more to do with some individuals being slaves to the fashion industry that are marketed toward them specifically. If your hair was being damaged you have a perfectly fine and legitimate reson to do what you are doing. Don't listen to them. You might want to ask them why they are allowing others to dictate to them how they should look and how they should dress.

Why does ANYONE in the world act like that? Insecurity, jealousy, opinions, racism, ignorance, superiority.... pick one. *shakes head* Personal style is just that....PERSONAL.
Do what you like.
