I have been seeing this question for some time. Not just from you but numerous people post this question.
I don't know many democrats. In fact I know more Libertarians then professing demo's. Non of them are anti defense or profess a slightly weak viewpoint on this.
SO is it a East coast woos factor. Because California has the most democrats of any State and also has the highest number of people that join the military. California is the strongest Military State but for some reason the thousands of Military families in California vote Left.

The problem is that Dems do not see the threat. They do believe that there are people out there that want to kill us. This was the same problem during WWII, they would not get involved in the first place because they believe that if they burry their heads in the sand and pretend that if they are nice, none of the loonies in the rest of the world will bother them...that is a pretty deadly view on things. However, they also feel that it is more important to spend as much money as they can on social programs as well. It is their biggest goal to turn this country into a Socialistic country where the government has total control over everyone’s lives; and of course if they spend the money necessary to build a military strong enough to protect us, they will not have near enough money to achieve their ultimate goal.

They're just weak, period. A fundamental policy of income redistribution is a policy of weakness and when it comes to defense it's just more of the same.
The Weak Sisters on this "forum" probably don't even realize that their "hated" NeoCons were once strong-on-defense Democrats who bailed out once the '60s wack-jobs took over the party.

The special interest groups they have to pay back are not military contractors.
However I might suggest that the GOP is more about military spending than on actual "defense" AND their imperialistic attitude (under the guise of protecting our interests aka markets) actually CREATE more terrorists thus making Americans less safe and in more NEED of defense.
