Anyways, why is it that the low-paying jobs need to be opened during most holidays? Just curious....I work on retail right now, but I still go to school. And I've noticed that it's all those jobs that have employees working with low pay that have to work holiday times.

Does this mean they're not worth the Labor day idea?

there are many who work on all the Holidays. think of the police, firemen, doctors, nurses, military, just to name a few. there are others like yourself who work in retail stores along with resturant employees, hotel personel, janitors, etc. so please don't feel like you are the only one. sad to say there are many people whose services none of us could do without if they weren't working especially since our society is such that noone is totally selfsufficient in modern times.

The city can't just shut down completely for a holiday. The higher paid jobs aren't absolutely crucial at most times to keep a store running, but the lower-paid workers are and a hop does not want to lose any prospect of cash (because who doesn't forget something and have to rush out and buy it the last minute?).

The only ones that would be working that do get a better pay than others would be firefighters, doctors, etc. because if something goes wrong and they're sleeping in...

Working in retail sucks. I had to work almost every holiday when I was paying my way through school. I just got so fed up with it and got myself out of retail. All they do is use you. I work in a doctors office, and I am a M.A. I am not done with my degree yet, but luckily we are closed today. Do what you gotta do and get yourself out of retail.

It means that businesses want to pinch people out of money every second they can. I pledge never to go to a store again on Labor Day to honor the workers.

I am in the ministry and there is no such thing as a day off. Every day someone is in desperate need of the love of Christ, so that is why I am writing to you this moment. Jesus loves you. Work on.
