I have been sick and have been taking antibiotics. I am on birth control as well. Is it still safe to have sex or do I need to wait a certain period of time...and how long?

Take it from this nurse, many antibiotic will decease the effect of the pill. You need to wait 4 weeks after you finish the antibiotics. But don't stop taking your birth control pills.

It's certainly true. Not all antibiotics. Some make the pill completely useless, some just decrease effectiveness. Not a chance worth taking.
My doc said to use a back up method until that pack of pills is done.

yes it can. I am on the ring and my doctor says to use something else such as condoms. if I take antibiotics because it weakens the birth control the patch and other types as well.

they can but will not always, reduce the effectiveness of birth control.... i would wait till i was off of them to have sex...just in case
