down on positive black people? My black friend works as a cashier in this restaurant and he says that the majority of the people who are rude and disrespectful to him are his own black people. They make fun of him for being polite to the customers, they always have a nasty attitude towards him for no reason. They have even told him things like he is not black because he knows how to read and and because he pronounces his words correctly? I didn't believe that people could treat their own people that way until I got the job along side him, and I saw for myself. They were extremely loud, rude, and obnoxious. When they come into the restaurant they are always cursing at the top of their lungs (it is like it is a second language to them) I know it is not all black people who behave this way but it is the MAJORITY of them that do. Can anyone help me to understand why black people look down on other blacks who are doing something positive with themselves.

The response is not to the treatment they are getting, whites, hispanics, asians, and arabs come to the restaurant all the time. Black people are the only ones who behave that way. Whether they were getting good treatment or not.

I would say the blame has to be placed squarely at the feet of the ridiculous hip hop culture. It is a celebration of shallow materialism, violence, objectification of women, and ignorance. Compare these rude people in your restaurant to the gangstas portrayed by hip hop stars. See any similarities in attitude?

With that said, it is also a generational thing. Older black people are polite, friendly and respectful towards others. Younger black people act like the world owes them something because of their skin color. My advice to them: GET OVER IT! You have grown up with opportunities your parents and grandparents only dreamed of. They fought through a brutal civil rights struggle to get the chance to be equal, and now you act like it's not enough. You feel like you should get special treatment because your black; you feel you can act like a fool and treat people rudely because your predecessors were treated like crap. Well, that was them not you! You have every chance to chase your dreams, and I know older black people I have talked to are disgusted at the way you waste your lives that they only dreamed of having.

Obviously, I am generalizing and their are many younger black people who don't act like this. However, the majority do act like buffoons for the aforementioned reasons.

You cannot say that a MAJORITY of black people act this way. Maybe the ones in your area do, but I rarely see this. And ignorance, obnoxiousness, and rudeness come in ALL colors. Don't act like you've never encountered rude white people. I've worked in a pharmacy for 5 years and I would have to say the majority of my rude customers were white but I haven't ASSUMED that the majority of white people are just rude and don't like positive black people. That would be stupid. And to answer your question--as a positive black woman, I would NEVER turn my nose up to any other POSITIVE person, period. Rude people are just that...it doesn't matter who they're being rude to.

as you say the problem could be deep rooted. Probably the behaviour is in response to the treatment they get.

Look at your own question: you said "I didn't believe that people could treat their own people that way .....". It is evident, that you look at yourself different from those "black people". I think, it is a good starting point to understand the situation.

It is a spiritual problem. I am sorry that I cannot explain it to you any better than this. It has nothing to do with going to church or religion---it has to do with their spiritual connection. Black people are no different from any other race. I am white and some of the rudest and most insensitive people I deal with are white. Some of the kindest are black. Like I say, it is spiritual, not racial.

there is a preponderance of ignorance, anger and violence among the black community....until we as a nation admit and address this...we will continue to pretend that it isn't so...that there is no basis for our stereotypes...you'll never hear a black person defend against the stereotype that white people can't dance...that asians can't drive...but bring up the fact that a great number of their own population is loud, obnoxious, rude etc..etc..well, you know what happens...everyone's racist...right...

Having seen the behaviour for myself over a lifetime...living in poor latino neighborhoods, "poor white trash" neighborhoods..and the ghetto...along with having volunteered after Katrina in Gulf Port....blacks were the only ones behaving abbhorently...almost everyone else seemed to be downright thankful for our help...meanwhile, the blacks were telling our staff doctor things like "pick up the trash yourself honky".....outrageous...

If we had said ...look ******, you need to pick up after yourself...we'd have been shot...

This behaviour is not a singular incident...black america has a real social and cultural problem in America...it's time to sit down and have an honest look at the problem...I know day after day we hear how white america has oppressed the black man and that's why we keep throwing them in jail...but I can tell you, from experience, most polite and cultured african americans aren't afraid of whitey breaking into their homes...

there's a majority of blacks in prison, because a lot of blacks commit crimes...because there's also more poor blacks....but instead of positive black leaders coming out and saying...we need to pull ourselves as a group out of this...they fill their heads with the notion that whites are to blame...when in fact, it's their own leaders who do them a disservice by failing to offer real solutions...

Does anyone think White people are going to suddenly roll over and hand over everything they've built these last several hundred years because of guilt??? AAAHAHAHA...foolish...

I've never owned a slave...I've pulled myself up and out of the trailer park by educating myself and utilizing opportunities...

Until black america does the same...they will be where they are...

that goes for any group...

to the question, blacks have this cultural dichotomy...blame everyone else for their lot in life...and frown upon those who try to do better...it's a self-esteem issue...someone trying to better themselves despite their circumstances or skin color...is a "house ******"...sad, very very sad...

This attitude will continue to lead to more of the same...

notice how yahoo bleeps out the word ****er...but not honky...interesting isn't it? And therein lies the problem...racism is either wrong or it isn't..across the board.

The so called black people that you refer to are not so much as disrespectful, as your so called black friend needing a reality check. What we focus on constantly either becomes a fear, or fetish. He fears that he will be stereotyped by the people he wants to be accepted by, due to the actions of his own kind. Maybe he should take a chill on trying to be other than himself, and educate himself, so that he could educate others. peace

Sounds like the restaurant has a nasty clientele. Most folks aren't like that .... I like to think most folks are nice and kind and tolerant and respectful of others. These people are just stupid and ignorant. I don't care what colour they are..... "stupid is who stupid does". I hope your friend just ignores them like the idiotic scum they are.

Someone as racist as you definitely doesn't have a black friend.

You are just too cowardly to say that those are your bigoted, uneducated, steroetyping opinions.
