I want to stain the cedar and put a clear coat on it. But not sure whether painting one or boths sides is better. Florida

the 'stain' needs only be applied to one side. The sealer should be applied to both prior to installation. Once installed, a final or 'finish' coat can be applied in place.

Paint bothsides because even the under side will get moist from morning dew especially when it rains and the wind sometimes blows the rain under the porch.I live here in Houston where the weather is like yours.

the only way you can do the backside is before install. I did mine before and it looks great 10 years later, it took on a nice hue, kinda golden. Its outside also. lay it out, do one side let it dry, flip, do side two let it dry. takes a few days. I used an air brad nailer and edge nailed it to hide the nails.

One side. The wood needs to breath.
