This question has been discussed by philosophers of different cultures. A Chinese philosopher Zhuangzi told a story about a dream in which he was a butterfly. Perhaps you might find some inspiration from this story by looking it up at Wikipedia and also by doing a google search for zhuangzi.
My opinion is don't worry too much whether you life is a dream or not. Just live and enjoy it and in the process, enhance the quality of the life of people around you and leave the world a slightly better place when you're gone.

"Good gosh M T, when I started out, after adolescence, all I had were dreams. As I aged, every couple of years, some of my dreams were turned into realities. Sometimes, more dreams would emerge, sometimes I realized more in reality.
I kept learning about the nature of dreams vs. reality. As I developed mentally and spiritually, I was somehow enabled to understand more of the relationships and methods to turn my dreams to realities. I recognized this same process happening in my close relatives and friends. I believe I can "see" it happening in your writing ... I've "listened" to you with both eyes open.
I admit, all occurred in a linear fashion. Dreams were first, followed by their reality, step by step, year by year, epiphany by epiphany.
Today, I experience reality and have few dreams except those which I embrace in hope of continuing to make a small contribution to mankind."

Very profound, and good thinking, or perhaps, dreaming. I think that dreams could represent a glimpse of the afterlife. They could represent the new reality when you die. Your question predicates the whole thing on the basis of dreams. I think that both realms, life and death, have there own realities.
But, we don't know anything for sure, so we should be humble in the face of the miracle of life.

Because I have dreams that later occurr in reality and vice versa. Either I'm living a double "reality", or I'm just dreaming during one part of the day and living during the next.

Because reality has a running time line that works in conjunction with all the interactions of others.
Characters in your dreams never remember if or whether they were in your last dream and never make references to your future dreams.

There would be a damn lot of people in my dreams if my dreams were actually my reality - does everyone share my dream everyday? No, I don't think so! This is not the Matrix and it is not Vanilla Sky either. Excellent movies watch them!

When you dream, you could try and jump off a cliff and see if what happens after... lucid dreams are cool because you can control them.
In reality you can't control your dreams. if you can figure this out, then that is the answer to your question.
