what is the river like

Shallow in places. Turbulent in others. There are deep spots. It is home to "Falcon Lake" which is the saddest case of mismanagement ever seen. Water levels dropped due to some serious dry spells and turned marinas in to cactus gardens... It's a really bizzare sight to see covered marinas sitting attached to hotels that lay out in the desert with old boats still tied to their moorings pushing up cactuses. You can quite literally drive down the boat ramps and drive for about 2 miles through South Texas brush and cactus before you get to water. I've heard that it's improved in the last two years because of improved rainfall, but it's still really low. Tourist maps and guides on the internet say nothing of this.

On the upstream side the Rio Grand makes great rafting. If you're into camping, Big Bend National Park has Camping/Rafting trips all the time.

It is kinda dirty/ muddy along the US/ Mexico border. It feeds a man made lake called Lake Amistad, near Del RIo, Tx.

The fourth largest river in the US at a whopping 1885mi spanning from Colorado to the Gulf of Mexico.

Chcek out the wiki page.
