I have been using a programme for years that gives you everthing you need.
It certainly locks files etc etc. Simple to use by using the right click menu you can either lock or unlock files/folders etc etc.

I use it to lock my personal files so any curious people cannot open them without a password.

Anyway here is the link. You have to buy the prog but worth every cent.. its called pc security

http://www.tropsoft.com/

Use it with confidence

option 2********** free using windows not secure but hides so people cannot see the file anyway so open it...
Lets hope I can get this right.

Highlight file you want to hide (right click)
Goto the sharing and security option on list now displayed
Click on general tab
click in hidden box and then click on apply
select the option you want usually the default.

Your folder will now disappear...but dont worry it is still there.

if you can still see the folder click on tools up the top and goto folder options.
tick the box that says "do not show hidden folders"
It will then not be show in your folders.

It of course will still be there.
You can make it reappear or open it by going to tools and clicking on "show hidden folders"
you then right click on your hidden folder and untick the box hidden or unselect hidden,

Your hidden folder will then be back to normal.

If you want to view your hidden folder and not reveal it just do step one by clicking on tools and folder options then select "show hidden files"
Once you finish with your private file just go back to tools and click on "do not show hidden files".

Sounds complicated but easy once you have the hang of it and people will not see your private and hidden files so will not open them obviously.

A simple security system as what people can't see they won't open...

Not sure about a folder but turn it into a zip folder by RIGHT CLICK then SEND TO and select COMPRESSED FILE

Then enter the zip file and you RIGHT CLICK and select ADD A PASSWORD

You can still read these file its just that it takes a little longer to open files in zip folder

IF you dont want to change it to a zip file then you would have to get software from online, check at download.com.
