We are looking to research possible areas to retire and buy a house on a lake. We dont want a hot weather state like Texas or real cold like Minnesota. Anyone know of lake or cities with lakes and houses on them to research. Prices should be 500k or under. Thanks.

How about Central Florida close to Sebring Raceway the home of the 12hours of Sebring??? It's not sub-tropical weather like South Florida but if you like fishing and water sports they are plenty of lakes in my area (Sebring). I do have my house for sale on one (1) acre lot on Sebring Lake with a dock/boat lift station but I'll be honest I would never sell it under 500k.. The area have the best in both world to offer tranquility with that small town feel and at the same time close the all the conveniences needed (hospital, shopping malls, etc...)

Try contacting a local real estate agent. They will know everything there is to know about the best options for you. A really good website to browse local real estate/real estate agents is: http://www.idxbroker.com/news/256_IDX,_Inc._Introduces.php

(just click on a state you want to check out)

It's really easy to navigate and is full of info about realtors with links to their personal websites. Most of their websites will have all the available homes/rentals in the area along with community info, so you can do some research before you contact anyone. Hopefully that works for you. Good luck!
