Today's laptops have almost all the features of a desktop unit, including full sized keyboards. The big advantage is their portability, it's also their biggest security problem. My dad takes long visits to his condo near my brother. I convinced him to get a laptop so he didn't have to schlep a monitor, base unit and printer back and forth. He simply has an inexpensive printer at each home and pops his laptop in the car. I use my laptop in class to take notes and perform labs and calculations, even find research on the web because our campus has wireless access.
