Good question!
If we assume that Britain would never have lost control of America we would have seen a power shift away from London to "The States" with the bulk of economic might coming from the Western Side of the Atlantic.
Interestingly, Britain may not have tried to forge new colonies in Australia and Africa (the bulk of which were developed long after American Independence) so the British Empire may have been smaller, perhaps only really comprising North America, The Caribbean and India. Perhaps France, Spain, Holland or even Germany would have led colonisation in these areas?
Who knows, if Germany was busy running colonies half-way across the world there may never have been a WWI or WWII as we know, but instead a series of colonial wars.
North America would probably have seen the much the same racial mix as it has now. Even before independence people from all over Europe were settling there to flee religious persecution and start new lives.
In reality what now comprises the states would be a fully fledged independent state now anyway. In much the same was as Canada and Australia are - probably maintaining the British monarch as head of state.

Maybe not. As you may have noticed there aren't really any empires left. All the old imperialist powers were pressured into releasing their colonies, so the U.S. probably would have been independent by now anyway. However, you wouldn't get the fourth of July off and we'd probably still retain a lot of British culture.

It was inevitable. England was overstretched in their empire, and, like all empires, it was already in the process of collapsing.
Now we can see America going down the same imperialist road. It didn't work for Rome, it didn't work for England, France, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Egypt, or any other imperialist nation in history...and it is going to happen here unless we stop this madness! We should not be an empire!!!

What matters more than winning or losing the revolution is the fact the America had a liberal immigration policy. That's what made America big in population and strong.
