My harddrive is a maxtor and I'm using maxtor blast 4 to do the partions, I built the external harddrive and it's an Ultra ATA and the model is 6L300R0.

All hard-drives, external and internal, can be partitioned. You will have to do this when formatting the hard-drive. If you have already formatted the drive and used it, you will have to re-format. This will cause you to lose all data currently on the drive, so back up any personal files before doing this. You will have to re-install any software as well.

All you have to do is partition it. There is no need to format.
If you already have information on the drive, I would use Acronus or partition magic. Both will move your data so they can make a second partition

Yes its possible to have two partitions on your harddisk; one for your OS and one for data. you can achieve this with the good old fdisk command or any good partitioning software. The only difference between the two partitions is that you should make the one for your OS bootable and the one for your data non-bootable

Yes u can have 2 partition on ur External harddrive.It would be better if u use partition software.
