get a "glue trap" and put a dab of peanut butter in the middle...put it in the closet quickly.

Buy the mouse trap sticky adhesive pad .Set the pad down at corner of door with a piece of cheeze on it or put a dab of peanut butter in the middle.Put the pad on the floor then crack the door a little in front of the pad.The mouse will try and get out of the crack then unto the pad he goes.

They make a small container that runs on AA batteries, that you bait with peanut butter; even as the mouse enters, it electrocutes them. there is not any spatter, no mess, no heartbreak at searching a stay animal stuck to a glue capture and no muddle container to empty! maximum large drugstores and Walmart / aims promote them - low priced!

Perhaps you could go get a bait nugget from a hardware store of some sort. They eat it and die. (It's a green square nugget and I think it might be a Decon product.) You could just open the door just enough to throw it in there or shove it under the door.

Oh Oh i know!!!! squish it!!!! hehe not, just put a mouse trap in there and put peanut butter on it! trust me! it works!
