I think there's no ONE factor that causes obesity ...

You could attribute to reasons like
:- Affluency : Countries that are developed tend to have a population that is more obese, usually in western countries

- Genetic / Hereditary : What can we say ? Some of us have certain "annoying" genes that runs in our blood perhaps?

- Laziness : If you food intake or calorie count is more than the amount of energy you burn off, the rest would be stored as fats

There are many reasons why it causes obesity in every individual and personally, I would think laziness is the number 1 cause.

There have been TV programs that showed how "fat people" who could lose all that extra pounds by controlling their diet, watching what they eat, be educated about calorie count and of course, exercising etc and they lost half of their weight, if not more...

Truly, it's a combination of many factors. The over-consumption of junk foods, refined sugars, artificial sweeteners, food additives such as MSG, hydrogenated oils, just to name a few. On top of that, a lack of exercise by most people is a major contributing factor.

Laziness and poor food choices. It's not the fast food restaurants that make us fat, it's us. We decide what to put in our mouths, and how much and how often. Sometimes it's linked to an emotional matter, sometimes it's physical, like a thyroid problem.

Portion sizes!!!!!!! What used to be a large french fry is now a small!!!! 32 ounce Big Gulps!!! God Lord, who needs that much soda!!!! Portions have been dramatically increased and people feel that is what they are supposed to eat..... Go to a restaurant, order a chicken dish. A healthy portion is the size of a deck of card. You will usually get something equivalent to 2 huge chicken breast!!!

The #1 cause is "Poor eating habits." What one can do is to go on a diet of "discipline." Plenty of it. Do not eat everything you see. Think about your goal of losing those excess pounds. Do it for yourself and your loved ones. Take the stress off of your heart. It will be glad you did.

Consumerism..

Everything goes in the eyeballs, in the ears or in the mouth.
We consume this world and grow heavy with the fat of the land. We have no respect for ourselves, our communities, our Nations or our world.

The fat is the thin end of the wedge...
