I live in Orlando, Florida and at my current apartment the roaches are terrible. We've tried exterminators and sprays. I seriously doubt they could ever get rid of these damn things if a nuclear bomb exploded here right now. thank god, we are moving out of this godforsaken place in January, or sooner. I'm really worried the bugs will come with us. What can I do to make sure all the bugs are dead and removed before we move into our new place?

i plan on spraying little things that I put in the boxes, before i put them in the boxes, and maybe place them in storage so they won't get infested just laying around, and spraying, really well, all the big furniture. is this good?

I can't really tent a 12 unit apartment building, trust me I would've already. lol.

I used to live in Texas and the german roach population was unbelieveable. Before I moved to Maryland, I had to bag and spray everything. They love hiding in anything electrical, the TV the radios, toaster etc. Anything with a little tiny hole, they can get into. I bagged everything and sprayed Raid into all the bags. Cloths, computer, TV's, microwaves.... everything. Whatever I was packing into boxes, was put into big plastic bags and sprayed. The inside of the box was sprayed. I left everything packed for a few weeks in storage till we moved. Believe it or not, even dump your purse before going into the new place. All it takes is one or two hidden somewhere and you will end up with an infestation that is impossible to get rid of.

Do not take any plants with you to the new place. They hide eggs in the soil.

Good luck. It was rather extreme but it worked for me. It is a pain to have to wash everything as you unpack it, but worth the effort in the end!

I live in Orlando as well, and can tell you the big ones (Palmettos) are just part of living here. Normally there is only one at a time, they fly, and those will just come in. The little ones though, if you have one you have many and they want food.

Are you moving to a new apartment or to a house? It's almost impossible to get rid of them in the apartments here because not everyone is fighting them so they are constantly breeding. When you move, do as you planned and spray everything you can really really well. Get the crevices of your furniture, and use a spray with a nozzle so you can get in the cracks. Throw out all of your food and buy fresh when you move. Don't step on the cockroaches because their eggs can live and they will be on your shoes, tracking them.

When looking for a new apartment, try to find one with good landscaping and maintenance. The ones that are kept up outside aren't kept up inside. Trust me.

Boric acid works very well. You can get it at walmart or something like that in the laundry section. Look for a green box, Borax is what it is sold under.... It will not harm children or animals, its very effective and inexpensive. It has many uses, and one of them is to specifically kill roaches. Instructions right on the box. Give it a try, it around $3 what have ya got to lose?! Good Luck!

Heres My Advice . Its A powder Called Never NO MOre IT works Instantly i have Used it. What you do is when you get it put it in the water to mop the floor and wash down the walls and around everywhere you have seen the roaches. And by the end of the week you wont see anymore.

Don't take cardboard boxes into the apartment. Carry everything out of the apartment in your arms and put it in the car, be very thorough searching through your belongings. They can infest an automobile, too. If you use boxes, box the stuff in the back of the truck. Use only brand new boxes.

OMG, that is terrible. I hate bugs.

Boric acid powder is deadly to roaches but harmless to humans.Dust all the boxes with it (you can get it at Home Depot) and don't bring any food with you whatsoever.

You might also want to unpack your boxes outside at your new place if you can.

you have a good plan going there, but you wont get rid of them or see a difference in # unless everyone in the building sprays also. it is very likely for them to travel with you, i recently moved to arizona, and brought a pregnant mouse with me. luckily they like cheetos and so they were drawn to glue traps.

The ONLY thing I ever found that works (and the search was very exhaustive) is COMBAT RoachKilling Gel. It comes in a squeeze-tube arrangement amd contains HYDRAMETHYLNON. Nothing else will do the job, trust me!! It must contain HYDRAMETHYLNON. Just squeeze a small dot or two where needed and YOU WILL SEE RESULTS!!!!
