Yes, and a craft.

Unfortunately the vast majority of those who post on yahoo asking 'How can I get into acting and become famous?' have no intention on being an artist. In a big way most are wanting to act in order to be validated as people and to get their ego stroked.

Artists are those who have no other choice but to act or direct or write - they literally cannot NOT do it. They do it for the joy of the art, not for the joy of getting accolades and attention. Those are the people I work with.

To watch an artist at work acting can be as stunning as a simple stroke of a paintbrush in a picasso painting. Oh yes, acting is an art. Where else do people sit in a dark room and laugh and cry together because of what they see? That is art.

first you must clear yourself about what is the word "art"?!then you can answer acting is an art or not!
"art" is human's trying to show his feelings and his thoughts in another way,a way out of his usual life an that way is art!you can show them in litreature, photography or cinema!
in order to perform your ideas in cinema you need actors to move in your thought's way.cinema is an art but you can not say acting is a complete art because in order to be an actor you need to have lots of acting technics.but the way o using such technics is the art o acting!!!

Absolutely, it is.

However, that doesn't mean that it's purely intuitive. Like any other art form (painting, music, etc.), there are fundamentals and technical skills that must be mastered before the artist's individual personality and approach can be manifested.

Diligent actors apply themselves to the study of fundamentals such as Voice, Movement, and Text Analysis. All of these are mechanisms which enable the actor to get all of that good right-brain stuff across to an audience.

It is an art, a science, a job. You have to know how to balance the artistry with the analysis, the thought of work with imagination. It is everything.

I was an actor for...12...13...years. I am a techie now. I love both.

yes, but unfortunately some people who make their way onto TV and movies do not know this,

they have no respect for their craft, and think that all it is is reading lines and crying on cue! Its not!!!!!

like other art, there is a technique, and mastering it is challenging but possible!

i would love to be a master in this art form

but i dont know if i have the patience and will power to push myself as far as i need to go to achieve it!

it takes lots of strength and courage

i respect true actors!!

Good actors can come from studying the science of acting. But great actors learn the science, then forget it in favor of art.
