Having seen a documentary on the subject. I was inclined to feel sick! I thought it at best child protitution and at worst paedophiliac. Having such young children performing unsuitable stage sets in revealing costumes and heavy make up is sickeningly bizarre. And parents. Is the pay off or the need for fame at your childs expense worth the protitution of your child?

Personally, I feel this IS CHILD ABUSE -- and the Worst Form of it! All the parents who FORCE their child into these pageants, who HARM them with all those chemicals in their hair and on their faces, who FORCE them to wear those horrible dresses, to walk the way they have to and who DRAG them place to place for these "pageants" ARE VIOLENT ABUSERS -- and there is NO FURTHER Reason for that parent(s) to have custody of these children.

This sends a VERY AWFUL MESSAGE to the girls from birth who participate -- the ONLY value you have is what you get from the LOOKS you present - and NOT your brain, NOT your learning through having fun, NOT your education -- just your LOOKS.

There is NOTHING in the world WORSE than going to a local parade and seeing this SICKENING DISPLAY of Child Abuse. I have seen this -- and it is HORRIFYING.

NEVER, EVER will I EVER (nor have I EVER) done this to my own daughter! MY daughter played, she got dirty, she was into sports, she likes her education and reading, and she is active -- and NOT dressed like a Prostitute! Plus, as a result, she has HEALTHY SELF-ESTEEM, which is ONLY gained when one values the WHOLE PERSON of the Female Child -- and NOT just the 'looks'.

I am of a mixed opinion on this. I think individual pageants, like at a fair or festival, can be very cute, and I don't see anything harmful in these little competitions. But the ones where there is a "circuit" like the adult pageants and where the children wear such revealing costumes do make me sick.

Let children be children, not the objects of some predators or living out some dream the parent wasn't able to fulfill.

Yes, I agree. Every mum thinks their child is beautiful and that's normal and healthy. But to parade them on stage like celebrities do when they stick a miniature dog in their handbag is just sick. I can't remember the little girls name, something like Jon-Bennet (sorry if that's totally wrong), do you remember her being taken from her bed and murdered? Sicko's will take any child but I'm sure she was targeted because of how she was made to look like an adult. It's so wrong. As a mum, I want my little girl to BE a little girl. She will have enough pressure when she's a teenager that I feel as a mum, it's my duty to protect her and see that she has an innocent childhood.

As an American and mother myself, I think child beauty pageants are wrong. As a parent it is your job to raise, protect, and teach your child. I believe that pageants only give children a false sense of reality and teaches them to be better then other children there age. Which is just wrong. Parents only want to put there kids in pageants because they think their prettier, more talented, and smarter then other children and the parents themselves think that they are better then other parents, the way I look at it.
I am quite repulsed at the idea of any mother who would dress their child up like a miniature adult and parade her around in public and on camera. I see it as bait for pedophiles and its disgusting. Let kids be kids, raise them with respect, and let them decide on their own when their of age what they want to do. Parents should not live their life's through their kids, or try to. Its just horrible for every party involved.

I agree with you
Definitely Exploiting their Own children.... Not too mention that it certainly can NOT be helpful in raising the Kids to fit in with Others. In some cases seems like failure isnt an option to some of these people.
I also think that pageants and not to mention Most magazines attitudes are detrimental to society values anyways. That you have to be some sort of Beauty Queen to get anywhere in Life. How many ladies have to suffer with eating problems or fear of walking outside cause they dont have Barbie Doll looks?
I can also see some pedophile out there going to the type of shows just to get his Jollies and that is sickening in and of itself

Pretty sick. It's seems to be the mother, and sometimes father, living vicariously through their child. Seems to be pretty big in some Southern states. Craziness. Let the child be a child. You only get one childhood.

I feel the same way as you do. I think the parents should have been put in jail for child abuse. They dress their kid up to look like a tramp and then they wonder why she got killed. It's disgusting.

I think it depends on what part of the country you are from. I think child pageants, and even adult pageants, are a little strange.

There is something about dressing little girls up to look like cheap tarts. Is this the kind of childhood we want to give our children?
