Yes it should recommend the intervals in your owners manual. But if you really look into it you will discover that the oil breaks down through variing temperatures and driving conditions. water can even enter some gear boxes during rough driving conditions and high water.

Yes the auto gear box oil should also be changed as often as it is done for any normal gearbox system, you may change it as per the usage but to give an approximate time i would recommend it to be changed once in 4months.

Transmission fluid or "gearbox oil" does need to be changed..... How often depends on your driving style, environment that you are driving through and general condition of your vehicle. Your owner's manual will have exact specifications for your vehicle. For most cars, light trucks (pick ups) and SUV's 30,000 to 50,000 miles is a good standard.
I like to check the transmission fluid, oil and coolant monthly as its quick, easy and saves $$$$ in the long run.

Hi Dave, does you gearbox have a dip stick to check the oil level..if so then pour oil down the dip stick hole you may need to give time to fill.. if no dip stick hole then this may sound strange -- but trust me this is how its done --- start the engine undo the drain plug on gearbox fill gearbox with transmission fluid ( until fluid runs out) then replace drain plug.. job done..this could be a bit messy as the drain plug hole is small,, hope this helps you Paul..

Yes it does, and I would check your owners manual to find out. Only use the recommended fluid in your car. Many of the quick lube shop may not have the right stuff, so your will have to take it to a dealer. This is cheaper than replacing your transmission. I would say every 30,000 to 50,000 miles at least.
