Regular aphalt/shingle roofs come 3 shingles to a sheet, and can easily be removed and replaced. You can buy the shingles at home depot, and you'll need shingle nails. Once you get up there and inspect how the old one was put on, installing the replacement will be self-evident.

you could attempt to patch it with the "tar" finding fabric they sell on the ironmongery keep. the project is finding the leak. Rain first gets below the shingles and felt yet could holiday around in the previous finally entering into the abode. look interior the attic for clues...

Wishing you luck finding where the water is coming in! We have a cape cod with dormers and it took us quite a while to even find the leak because water tends to travel.

the question is how bad is your roof. if its starting to crumble or the edges are starting to curl then you better start looking to replace it. They make tubes of roofing patch. kinda like a tar in a caulking gun for a spot fix.

it depends where the leak is coming from,I'm a roofer,do it everyday. Is it in the middle of your roof,is it next to a dormer or chimney,is it near a pipe,do you get snow?If you want it fixed right either ask me or call a roofer.
