my husband works in a plant that makes wood veneer- the machinery is pretty loud so they require hearing protection for their employees. I suspect it to be this way at all the lumber mills. It is probably a good idea in any factory / warehouse where you have a big open space and a lot of heavy machinery running where noises are bouncing off all the walls and being amplified and echoing.

I'm not sure if it's 'required' but I usually see the guys in lawn care or the back hoe operator and such wearing hearing protection. (oh yeah, I saw a couple of the security guards at the Green Day concert wearing them too)

there is a osha threshold i thinks its 20 some decibles. but working in a quarry working in a mill maybe working in a textile plant. basically anything that involves large machines may require hearing protection

Most factory workers, construction workers, I know there are a lot more I just can't think of any more right now. But some times As a mother I think about using ear plugs LOL.

a) the person at the airport who guides in the aircraft
b)outside airplane baggage handlers
c) jackhammer operators

there are many place like plants or steel plants where the noises from the machines require ear protections.. many landscape companies require them as well...

I work at a box plant. We make the cardboard boxes and pads. You have to wear ear plugs there.

everywhere the place noise is a ingredient - shape, production facility workers, regulation enforcement utilising shooting levels, everybody engaged on the railroad, inclusive of an engineer and conductor, etc.
