I mean something like the sign for a w.c., not "road works ahead". Silhouette figures, no necks(floating heads) and such.
like so: http://www.prezzybox.com/data/media/4828.jpg
I know they are called pictograms, but is there a different name as well for the figures?

Your example mens room and ladys room. Most of the new crop of road signs are based on the same international standard you will see stick man with shovel "road work" circle with diagonal line "do not enter" "School crossing" Three stick figures different sizes walking on a line. And So on. "International " is how I heard those signs referred.
