1 pound is about 3'650 calories. 20 pounds are about 72'730 calories.

You want to lose this within about one month, which means you want to have a daily deficit of 2'420 calories!

This is HUGE.

Reasonable food intake efforts may allow you to cut, say, 500 calories a day (and that will not be fun). A pound of bread is about 1200 calories so if you eat a lot of bread you could eat half a pound less, per day. Of course if you do eat a lot of junk food, of processed food rich in fats, then please immediately replace get rid of this!

Exercice also helps. For example jogging / running, almost irrespective of speed, burns an extra 110 calories per mile (it depends on your weight). But depending on the shape you're in it is unimaginable that you'll be able to run more than 1 or maybe 2 miles a day. Let's say 2 best case, equals 220 calories. A side benefit of running, unlike other sports where your body shakes less (swimming, biking), is that it tends to lower your appetite a bit.

So with all this you may be able to have a deficit of 720 calories a day. After 30 days of this you'll have missed 21'600 calories. Which will have made you lose about 6 pounds.

Alternatively instead of jogging you could walk, brisk walking will burn about 70 calories per mile. This is of course less than jogging but some people will find it easier, and easier to fit in their work schedule, if they walk 4 miles (280 calories) than run 2 miles (220 calories).

So well, sorry, it doesn't add up to the 20 pounds you want to lose, and you'd need about 3 months to lose this in a reliable, sustainable manner.

Unless you can be bothered to run more than 2 miles a day (but this starts to require a pretty good shape), or can cut more than 500 calories a day from your food intake?

Of course on the last day(s), if it's a matter to meet a target, you can try to under-drink, but of course this will not be sustainable.

Hope this helps, and good luck
