I'm not sure about the exactly configuration of your webcam, but it depends. If the camera is physically unplugged, it's impossible for anyone to view it.

If the camera cable is connected to your computer and you are actively connected to a network (such as the Internet), it is possible for your camera to be accessed. However, this depends on the security of your computer - whether you have a good firewall, whether you're clean of viruses and spyware, etc.

To be safe...just unplug your camera when it's not being used.

yes im sure the government or a smart hacker can, i was watching a program on tv a few years ago and the fbi and cia can actually hook up a program that connects to youre cable going to youre tv, and use youre tv like a camera and look at whats going on in youre house whether the tv is even turned on. now thats scary, think of all the things that goes on in an average persons bedroom.

Who knows, why would someone want to hack into something - that is illegal and wrong any way you look at it.

They'd have to hack your messenger program, which should be running.
If you have a firewall it should be no problem.

Yes, but very unlikely that it would actually happen. Get a firewall if you are that worried.

No, I don't believe so, especially if you have the lens cap on.
