It was tragic and regretful. But when the time comes; it is time to go.

I myself am not a huge fan of Steve Irwins, however it seemed to me that he died doing something he loved and I totally respect that. I have three children so I am not as "daring" as maybe some people but I think that dying doing something you love, which also made many others happy is a nobel cause.

Steve Irwin will be missed. I for one believe in what he stood for. Preservation of land and animals. I don't believe anyone has given a thorough thought to what happens if it alls goes land & animals. the importance of each plant each animal and how it makes the world go around.

I was absolutely shocked. My wife and my son could not believe it when I told them. He was without doubt a great entertainer and cared deeply about wildlife. Totally watchable at all times and very informative. People say they saw it coming (always wise after the event) but I did not because he was a supreme professional who knew exactly what he was doing. I have not heard a single bad word said about him which is great credit to a truly remarkable man. I just feel very sorry for his wife and his young children. Their only consolation is that Steve died doing what he loved best. May he rest in peace.

I was really sad. He was a very passionate and enthusiastic human being. The audience knew he loved what he did. His death was incredibly ironic..which is why I think I was so surprised that he died by a sting ray, a very non-hostile creature. I wouldn't have been surprised if it was a snake or crocodile..but a sting ray? Any Joe can go swim with sting-rays just about.

Really sad though. A bright light left this world.

I was shocked and saddened. And I felt so bad for his family. I know he was always pushing the limits with the things he was doing. But it was still a big surprise to me. The main thing I thought of was... his children have to grow up without a daddy now. He may not have been right in some of the things he has done, but you could tell he really loved his family.

It was a horrible accident, but he had it coming the way he behaved around animals. And then to make thigs worse he involves his kids at such an early age...like when he held his baby boy while feeding a crocodile...was he insane? If I were his wife, I would have kicked his butt for doing that.

While tragic, I can't name many people that I have known in my lifetime that die doing the one thing (career-wise) that they feel most passionate about. I fantasize today and always have about being a writer...instead, I manage apartment communities to pay my bills today. As strange and ironic as his death may be, I cannot help but presume he was an extremely blessed, fortunate man.

It was a very sad thing....Steve always said he was put here to teach about wildlife, and that he would die doing it...and thats exactly what he did. He will be greatly missed. My heart goes out to his family, exspecially his wife and kids. But at least he died doing what he loved doing, and he will be laid to rest in the place he loved so dearly.

i will never forget the image of steve irwin talking to the camera while sharks were in a feeding frenzy all around him while he stood in the water...the guy was a crazy kook but he was fascinating, funny and very entertaining...i kind of felt one day his luck would run out the way he took risks dealing with wildlife but i would never have guessed it would take a stingray to be the culprit....my condolences to his friends and family....he was one of a kind and his legacy will continue as his shows run on animal planet

Great guy, and he died by doing what he loved. He may have been asking for it a bit but it was his time thats all. He did what he wanted to do and that is just cool and all for him. His death is sad for many and his family of course but it was his time.
