We all have our opinions on the war in Iraq. Where do the Iraqi people stand? Do they want a democracy like we have? Do they want a country divided into Kurd, Shiite & Sunni's? Do they want us out of there so they can determine their own fate? I'm curious to what everyone thinks as well as any facts you might have to share. All thoughts are welcome...........

I don't know. I would guess there are some for each of those things; the problem is that their future is being molded by people who won't have to live in it. You can't walk into the middle of a story you didn't write and tell everyone in it how it needs to end. I'd like to hear what the Iraqis want loud and clear - not what we think or want them to want.

Although it would be difficult to know without somehow interviewing every Iraqi, I don't think that they would want a democracy exactly how we have it. Unfortunately, in Iraq, there is a lot of division among the different tribes. It seems that Kurds don't want a Shiite or Sunni leader, and vice versa vice versa. They're often unwilling to accept a leader of a separate group. I think it's a shame that many of our own leaders feel that our form of government will work everywhere. Iraq is a different culture and needs a government that represents their culture. I don't feel that our government is one that could possibly know what would be best for Iraq. Obviously, Hussein wasn't best for them, but neither is our system.

Just as America is divided in its opinions, so too are the Iraqis. There are Iraqis who support all of the scenarios you've described above. Add to the ones above: some want a return to a dictatorship, some want a theocracy, some want a democracy with religious aspects, some want a tribal confederation, etc.

It's a great question and hopefully some Iraqi people will answer it. I would love to know they're real opinion.

My personal opinion is we need to get out of there and let them sort it out. It's not an easy situation but I think we've done all we can and more than we should have. I don't think it was up to us to invade them in the first place.

Like most people, I think they want an undivided country with THEIR party in charge.
I don't think that's likely in the near future. There is way too much killing going on. Like other countries have been, they could be divided into three parts, but then the killing would continue, as borders were disputed.
I think most people want peace, but when people around them are killing, they have to respond. Remaining peaceful in what can only be described as a civil war is very difficult.

There's an article in the Washington Post today about the Iraqi Government's thoughts on this subject.

I don't think THEY know since no one asked them if they wanted freedom or not. NO ONE ASKED THEM ANYTHING except when the US littered the street of Baghdad ASKING the residents to leave because they were going to get bombed.

I think, honestly, they just want the violence to end. How many Iraqi civilians die EVERY DAY NOW compared to under Saddam?

As for Ethnic divisions....Well, lets just see where the CIVIL WAR will lead them (and I believe in this civil war happening more than I believe ANYTHING since the start of this bull shi+)

Above all else the Iraqis want foreign forces out of their country. Their problems are THEIR problems, they don't need people to interfere and try to persaude them that certain systems are best for them.

They want the Americans the hell out of their country, but they want us to keep the American dollar there.
Plain and simple.
Panama was the same way, they didn't want us to interfere with their country ,so we left with the treaties,we need to do the same thing with Iraq and get the hell out of that quagmire.
Damn those in power who got us into this mess.
