Not really a question, more of a comment that I am very sad at the untimely and a rare way in which Steve Irwin, "The Crocodile Hunter" died.

He died doing what he loved but I just feel especially bad since he had 2 little kids. They will never have a father anymore. Pretty sad, isn't it?

Please feel free to leave your thoughts here.

It IS very sad. But they will realize one day that their father made a world of difference for our wildlife community and was hero to all wildlife activists. And that is very special. Very lucky to have their father documented in shows, articles and talkshows that they can look back and see what kind of man their father was. As for me who lost my father at 7, I do not have that. They will survive and they will grow up to know their father more than you think. May God bless the family of Steve Irwin, he was truly a great man!

While dying at the hands of nature/wildlife is rare for most, it's not that rare for those who work so closely in the field and take such risks as he did, if you think about it. He was filming a documentary and swimming with stingrays--that raises your risk of the bizzare "death by stingray" quite a bit. And he had been criticized for his risk taking in the past, so I think while news of his death is still a sock for most people, I think a lot of people saw it coming. You might remember the outrage over the incident when Steve took his small child and frolicked with some crocodiles, and he insisted the child was never in any danger. A few years back there was a story about a guy who "lived among bears" for many years, who ultimately was eaten by the very bears he so loved. It isn't as rare as you think.

I didn't know he died until I read it on Answers. Then, I read the story online. I can't believe he died!! It's tragic. I mean, he was sort of a nut, but he had a family. It's always sad when kids lose a parent so young. No one else was as passionate about animals like that man. It's awful.

it's weird to read your comment with your avatar smiling next to it! well, anyway, i haven't heard (i live in france and he's a total stranger here...) but i think it's just as sad as any other parent who dies and leaves their children behind! and to be frank, i don't think he was really a great father! i mean, that incident when he took his kids as 'bate' to show everyone that the crocodile wouldn't bite! that was crazy! i'm not saying that he didn't love them but that was a bit weird.... =O no but i still did enjoy watching the crocoldile hunter when i lived in california... his accent is awsome! by the way, i do a great crocodile immitation you can't hear but it goes 'i'm gonna see how far i can stick my hand into this aligators mouth!' - you have to do it with an exaggerated accent... try it!

Life is what you make of it, and there are no promises but death. I think he did what he wanted, offered back to his community (the community of humankind), enjoyed life, loved openly and while its really sad that he died so young, how wonderful to have had such a productive person in our lifetime.
