my boyfriend and i are going to amsterdam and although we are not big dope heads, we may want to check out the coffee shops while we are there.
thing is, he's in the forces and could face be given a drug test at and time, which if failed could mean instant dismissal.
he does have 6 weeks off work - will he be ok to have a coffee/ smoke without risking his job?

It varies for different people. The average is 4-5 weeks. But I know a girl who swore she could to to the drug test high and pass. I myself passed a test after smoking the night before.

The thing is. The more fat you have on your body, the longer it stays in your body. This is because that's where it's stored, and thus why it takes so long to leave. I'd say do it about a month before you think you may get a drug test. If you know when you will get the test, pound the water before hand. Although this will NOT help wash it out of your body any faster, it will dilliute it so that when you get tested, there will be very little to no traces of thc in you. This is of course for a piss test. If they test you from your hair, well, you're basically screwed. Your best bet, honestly, if you're afraid of getting tested, is not to do it. I can see your circumstances though. Going to Amsterdam is a big chance to do it.

It depends on how much you smoked and for how long. I've hear 1 month as a good rule of thumb, but you can take golden seal to speed that up. The company will most likely only ask for a urin or blood test. Testing the hair or spine is too expensive for recruiting purposes.

If the test is hair rather than urine, a long time... or shave him head to toe for a few months after you get back, that might be weird, but if you went to Amsterdam it may not be too weird. One more thing, how the hell do you get 6 weeks off work! I had to go in this morning and it's a national holiday in the US...maybe you guys have too much free time to "burn"

Its all in your matabolism.

The halflife of THC is between 0.8 to 9.8 days and it all depends on what kind of smoker you are. If you're a very occassional smoker with a fast matabolism, you'll be clean very quickly. A heavy user with slow matabolism will need to detox for awhile. Flushing your system with lots of liquid and B vitamins may help. If you're really unsure pop a few aspirin before going in, it may help bring up an inconclusive result. (These are "tips" that are not medically backed or proven or anything so take them for what they are).

Other than that, delay the test for as long as possible or get someone elses urine.

Honesty, if he doesn't smoke regularly and he only smokes once or twice in Amsterdam, he'll most likely be clean in 48 hours.

Personally, I wouldn't chance it. The chemicals can stay in the urine for up to 7 days and in the blood for over a month. My son, who has had honors classes at school, informed me that pot can be detected even longer after use by means of doing a test on the hair follicle. I don't know if that last is true, but it is something to think about.
