You have stumbled on the key to the liberal vs conservative debate. First of all, if you take true scientific surveys as to what are real American values, more than 50% will side with conservatives. The problem is most do not identify with the conservative tag. There is so much politicizing of everything that so many people get turned off. They also fall for the Democrats support the working people propaganda.
The other side of it is people naturally flock to leadership. Rush Limbaugh is the #1 radio talk show host. He discusses media bias and interjects what politicans should actually do. People want to hear solutions, not problems. He does his sarcastic attacks on liberals which is not to be taken seriously.
Sean Hannity and Glen Beck are 2 and 3. Hannity is more of a news guy and is at times grating. He is well informed and provides a great service. I have only started to listen to Beck because he is not on locally where I live.
The liberals also fail because they whine, complain, and offer no solutions. I flip through NPR out of NYC periodically. They focus on minor points, issues that few people care about, attack Republicans constantly, and ramble on and on and make no substantive points.

B good 26 has the answer. ALL print, television and motion picture media is controlled by the Liberals. Do you ever notice In every movie the republicans are always they Bad Guys. Several years back the controversy came out about the gas additive MTBS and how it was a deadly carcinogen and it was lethal to humans. I lived in Northern California at the time, and a conservative radio station was trying to expose these facts. About 30,000 listeners went to Sacramento to protest and try to make Gray Davis the Governor at the time, aware of what was happening. But you never saw anything about it in the paper other than, "A few protesters showed up at the capital to complain about gas additives!" Because Arco was a major supporter of the Democratic Party. Yes, some of the oil companies also support the Democrats not just the Republicans like they would have you believe. Bottom line, if BOTH parties really cared about our citizens, they wouldn't even have parties, we would just vote for the BEST candidates not follow along with our parties choices. I vote for candidates from all three parties based on their QUALIFICATIONS and character.

using fact Liberals can purely pass on stations that acquire donations as they're all knowledgeable via the Leftist Public college equipment and are dumbed down into thinking innovation and artwork ethic is incorrect and communism is powerful. Your Tax money help Liberals. a minimum of PBS would not get a central authority grant. And such unmitigated drivel. I used to honestly pay attention to it Ohh look who's taking Olbermann's place Richard L.Wolfff is a journalist, MSNBC commentator, and author of the Barack Obama books Renegade: The Making of a President and Revival: lol

First to get this out of the way- Howard Stern was kicked off Clear Channel radio because the Family Values crowd (conservative, mostly) disliked his content. I dislike it too, but my position on that stuff and Rush and everything I don't like is- find the off button and use it.
Howard Stern is now on satellite radio raunchier than ever, I hear tell
As for why liberal radio is not successful as Conservative, It goes back to what Mencken said -For every complex problem, there is a solution that is simple, neat, and wrong. So Rush gets on and brays his simple neat solutions, his Dittoheads call and agree with him like mindless robots, and then it's time for a commercial.
I'm not sure drive time radio is the time or the place for serious discussion of problems. Radio is background. I don't wanna hear a discussion on immigration I wanna hear the oldies. For serious stuff I go to the Internet or a magazine or a book.

I think that liberal or progressive radio is making a run most radio markets. Air America is doing well here in Texas of all places. The problem with a new format in any market is that advertisers are reluctant to put their ad dollars into an unknown demographic, and until the station is on for a while, the ratings book is not going to reflect their true listenership.
Also, sad to say, I am forced to listen to these Right-wing hate mongers when I want to get a local traffic report or weather forecast because Air America does not do those updates as frequently as I need them sometimes.

Capitalism. It's a business. Conservative radio shows have a wider audience, hence advertisers are more apt to run ads on conservative shows leading to more income. If people don't listen to a show, nobody will purchase air time so it won't be successful. And i'd bet more liberals listen to FM radio.

That's like the question: "Why don't we have a white history month."
The appeal of conservative radio is that it is an alternatve. Liberal media is all around us, in the very air we breathe. So when conservatives began starting little radio shows on the nearly abandoned AM format, it was because that was really the only outlet for conservative thought. The television media in the days of the Big Three was uniformly liberal, but no one knew it because it was all there was.
Why would anyone listen to a liberal on AM radio when all they have to do is turn on Katie Couric?

Because the liberals don't have time to listen to the radio - they're out there trying to make the world a better place. Conservatives on the other hand are sitting there in a drug-induced stupor with their leader Rush Limbaugh going "duh, aren't we great?" And they aren't doing a thing to make the world a better place.....but at least they're getting to hear the words of Chairman Rush on a daily basis.

Because liberals don't have the same appetite for being fed their own hate and prejudice back to them that conservatives do. Half the listeners to Rush... the drug addict guy, are liberals who listen because it gets them mad. The liberal equivalent of conservative radio shows are satirical shows like The Daily Show, or the films of Michael Moore. When liberals get angry, it comes out as humour, conservatives just get angry.

Because Liberal shows discuss issues and arent quite as exciting as Rush or Ann Coulter or Hannity or O'Reilly who just spout off at the mouth making wild unsubstantiated accusations just to improve their ratings.
