They have progressed in economic matters, although in a country with a billion people it is very difficult for progress to englobe everyone or everything. The Indian society is made up of four casts, which are like fixed social classes. You are born into a cast and you cannot progress, which is why progress will always be limited. Plus, the difference between men and women is purely social and cultural, economic progress will probably not improve things.

India has progressed- but that more or less means that it's on the way to making progress, that it's beginning to reform and better its ways. And thouhg India might have improved the country in various ways (such as building new schools, increasing security, making the literacy rate rise, etc.)that doesn't necessarily mean that India has risen to the point where it could break down the barriers of injustice erected around women...

On a more serious note, do you have any idea as to how SE and FE Asian women are treated by 'pheringee or falang' men in the west? The point is the difference you refer to is not restricted just to India but it is a universal problem.

If I'am not wrong in the rural surbarbs of INDIA women are still not allowed to work but it is not so in the urban cities.Hence INDIA has progressed in IT but not in this way.

It is superficial and not inside. I mean the India you live in which is metro and big cities. Forget about rural india as you will hardly go and settle in a village unless you have suicidal tendencies and want to settle there and see the difference.
