In the multi-millions.
The gap between the classes seems to be shrouded in myth. In other words, we are being conned into thinking that we are a classless society. Trotting out examples like Bill Gates makes us feel like there is still an American Dream, when in fact there are no upwardly mobile just a few exceptions.
A high salary has to push you into the upper echelon and it would appear that 2% make all the money and the rest of us bums are all lumped together barely able to make a distinction between lower and middle class.

It depends on how much you want to spend. Some people who earn $30,000 in America have no debt because they live frugal lives. Some families I know earn $200,000 a year and have debt coming out of their eyeballs because they are just concerned with getting more and more stuff.

Everything is relative. Some would say a high salary is anything above 100,000.00. Some would say that is slumming.
