Male authors: "She was not a perfect beauty...." - Then it comes: Either her lips are too full or she has this beauty spot under her eye, her breasts are a bit too big or whatever ... Nothing anyone would call a blemish... au contraire!
Female authors: Their female protagonists very rarely feel too fat, they're always too skinny and suffer from their thin, long legs...
Come on, girls!!!!
"It was one of those (...) days...."
The ONE obligatory sex scene! You don't have to write it! Or in case you're one of the very few authors who is able to write inventive sex scenes write at least TWO or one in the end and not exactly in the middle of the book!

I don't think this is a phrase most people use as a cliche, but in books:
'He shook his head to clear it'.
Nobody does that! If you're feeling a bit groggy, shaking your head is only going to make it worse. And yet there must be hundreds of books where authors use that line.
