Every person is different in the way they experience grief. It depends on whether the marriage was a happy one or not. The younger most people are, the sooner they are likely to start dating again. Older folks who've been married a long time may not ever date again or they may wait several yrs. They really miss the companionship.

When I was 21, my boyfriend was shot and died. I was devastated. It takes time because I do not think we accept that they have died. I kept thinking he was going to come back. It honestly took me 7 years to face the fact he was gone, it was on his birthday Aug13 and I called his sister and it just hit me like I was slapped up-side the head. I cried a lot. As for dating again, I think it took like a couple of years. I just worked and kept busy. I moved from the town we lived in, it was too hard on me to stay and come home to nothing.

wait until you realize that your pictures of him/her are put away, your kids and friends support anything you do and occassionally ask you to go out with them, and you smile when you think of seeing someone new. If you think of your spouse when you think of dating, your not ready. Grief doesn't have a timeline but you need to rebuild your heart and soul again. Take as much time as you need.

I would not date again id something happened to my husband. I am om my second marriage and have no desire to be involved if something happens to him. I would have a big enough fight on my hands just keeping custody of his daughter because of his family. Sadly for me it is half real threat due to the heart disease in his family dad at 42, uncles38,50, and an aunt in her 40's

after my wife died there was a period of adjustment. i personally waited about 2 years. but like the Apache state " mourning is not a specific period of time but of the heart. " even though i'm in love with another lady whom i hope will marry me i will never ever forget my first wife as she was and will always be a part of my heart. just like my lady's first will always be a part of her heart. and to me this is the way life should be as we need to remember and honor those who have gone before us as we continue on our journey through this plane of existance.

i had the same thoughts a few years ago. i wondered if i could love anyone else and had a practice run. regretfully my wife found out. i tried to explain that i was just seeing if i could form a relationship with someone else in the event of her death.
i learnt it was best to wait until they died before having such thoughts.

I often hope and pray that I will be the first one to die, that would be the easier thing. But honestly who can say? That is completely in God's hands and it would be up to Him to determine when or what would happen after that.

When my ex's wife died...........he didn't let no grass grow under his feet before he married again.......lol. As for me, I would probably wait at least a year or so.
