Steve Irwin was killed by a stingray while filming a documentary off the Great Barrier Reef on Monday, September 4. And how did I learn about it? When I turned on the Today Show on NBC, they were replaying the interview with Irwin and Matt Lauer about Irwin putting his baby boy within feet of an alligator.

Look, I don't condone Irwin's behavior, but am I the only one that thinks this was a slap in the face? They couldn't focus on Irwin's status as an international environmentalist and entertainer? I wonder what his family feels about this.

I think it's sick and wrong. This man should be remembered for more than one little controversial incident. Yeah, he shouldn't have done that, but who hasn't done a foolish thing at least once?More people knew Steve from his tv shows and movie than from the baby incident. I don't know why the news thinks that is a good way to remember him.

Maybe they should focus on all the good he has done. He was a great entertainer and has helped thousands of kids become interested in science again. He was a great environmentalist and has done a lot to raise awareness of the animal world. I bet his family would be livid to find out that instead of mourning Steve and showing his great accomplishments, they instead focus on one stupid accident.

I don't think it's right. We all make mistakes why is his mistakes so important now. The only explanation that I can come up with is because He can't defend Himself now. Why can't they show all his accomplishments in his life like a wonderful family and a great career. I don't condone what he done about the baby either, but it's been addressed, they need to let it go. They need to let Steve Irwin rest in peace He deserves it because He was such a good person.

You are so right! He was a wonderful person who definitely loved his family and would never put them in harms way!! I did not see the Today show this morning but how sad that they would take the family's pain and turn it into what they feel he did wrong. Steve Irwin will always be an inspiration to me for all the wonderful work he has done in the preservation of wildlife!

Sensational journalism from a liberal TV guy - not surprising. It is in VERY bad taste.
No one WANTS to get hurt while doing their job. Steve Irwin was good at what he did and had an accident. The stingray got a lucky shot at his heart. He will be missed by a lot of people and I would not miss Matt Lauer if he were pulled from the air and sent packing.

i think Irwin is a trained professional. him behavior at that performance is what made him famous. he should be honored for doing something that no other person would do. go to the end of the earth to save possibly deadly animals.

HI,,, you know,, when he started out,, everyone like the Croc hunter,, and his crazy ways... I did especially,,,, but ...... (and there is always a , but)..... I figured he would get either hurt very badly or eaten .....

So, this really comes as no surprise to me....

I feel for his wife and 2 small children,,,, but they (Terri the wife did) the dangers of the business..... and I hope in 20 yrs maybe we will see his Son's keeping up what Steves' Father began...

Good Luck.....

Yahoo! news did it, too. Until they saw how the world was reacting to his death, the news article ended with how he escaped condonement of getting too close to some penguins in Antarctica. I'll never understand news journalists...it's like it's a crime for them to show some emotion in their articles.

I think it sucks that they are going to remember him for this. He was a colorful character and should be remembered for his wildlife conservation instead of the other. I think he was a great dad and I sure he will be really missed.

If you had listened to the rest of the segment, they spoke of all the things he had done in his lifetime. I don't think it was wrong to present him as an at-times controversial figure. They also gave him a nice tribute.

If it helps to make people understand, then I am all for it.
They are wild animals, not pets.
You CAN'T control wild animals.
Let that be a lesson to all mankind.
