I remember Woolworth's and G.C. Murphy's. In addition to great stuff to buy for very low prices, they had a soda fountain where you could get a hot dog & a cherry coke for very little money.

I remember we had a Woolworth's as well. I went there alot with my mother. Along the side of the store there was a long counter type cafeteria, and right beside it was the girls makeup. I always wanted to look at the make up, but was worried about all the patrons drinking their coffee and staring at me that I never did look..now it's a bank and it doesn't look anything like what my memory remembers .sigh..My favourite store, however, was The Met (The Metropolitan). It was where I bought my first sea monkey kit and I was so disappointed that the "monkeys" did not have little crowns when they "hatched". I also got my first container of slime with worms and at the back of the store there was the pet shop where I got my first goldfish. I named him Fred and I had him for fours years ...he's buried in a Cool Whip container at the house where I used to lived

Don't know about you, but back then I often stared at the radio when "The Shadow" or something else was on. And Woolworth's, Kresses, yeah baby! A LONG time ago. Movies cost us .25 cents to get in. Miss the 5 and 10 cent stores and their cheap perfumes "Blue Waltz" And "Evening in Paris" . Dusty little glass partitions separated the merchandise. In the basement you could buy oilcloth for table coverings. I liked a lime Ricky and a tuna sandwich or BLT with fries. As long as you were a kid and not in the war, those were the days.

Ben Franklin's. I think we had a Woolworth's too. I remember a snack counter, but my fasmily could never afford to eat there. We would go look at the toy aisle and just stare at all the cool toys in little bins.

We also had a cute little corner grocery store next to our elementary school. It was called Nolte's and it was attached to their house. Wonderful penny candy counter, I remember leaning on the glass pressing my nose and trying to decide between the many choices. Oh how I wish I had pictures of that place now.

I remember the Ben Franklin stores my brother and I would walk to town every weekend and buy 1 cent candy. Of course that was several years ago.

ours was Newberry's. It didn't have a soda fountain, but if you needed something, you could find it there.
