no, contact lenses are not harmful even if you wear them for the sake of fashion...but you should take care of a few things:
1. Wear a good quality lens like those from Bausch & Lomb
2. Get soft lenses as they are easier to manage- hard lenses hurt the eye at times.
3. Dont wear them for more than 10-12 hours.
4. DO NOT wear them while swimming or sleeping and try not to go near a fire as the flying flames can hurt your lens.
5. Always wash your hands before touching the lenses to avoid infection.
If you take care of these things you can wear lenses without any worries whatsoever... :)

No.But remember to stay away from dirt & don't wear them for more than 12 hrs.
