Oh I know, I have dove with Rays, in the Cayman's. I can't believe this! They said the barb must of just cut his chest in the right part to lacerate the heart. If you know anything about rays the barb is not on the tip of the tail so it 's not able to stab you with it. It's more like if you grab the tail it will slice your hand. I have included some great picture of Sting Ray City. I guess this only proves that when it is your time it's your time. Atleast he was living, and doing what he loved.

Not a bite, a stab...The sting ray has a long whiplike tail that is razor sharp. The point went through his heart. Steve must have stepped on it by mistake (they often hide under sand at the bottom)...Why be sad? He was doing what he liked doing, and all life is risky and comes to an end sooner or later.

Yes it is a shock and so sad as he was so young and still had so much to do. However he died doing something he loved, and he was always aware that the kind of work he did was dangerous. He will be missed.

IIm depressed since yesterday when I heard it. What troubles me is that the whole thing is on Video!!!

He didnt have a chance to survive because the barb was venomous too...

I admired that man's energy and involvment in his work. Im NOT ashamed to say that I try to imitate this in my life, work and with people. He was in my city for a program on NGC. I tried to but couldnt make it to the Croc-park. I now wish I had met him...

My heart goes out to his family and those two young kids and his wife...

He died doing what he loved the most....

Breaks my heart to realise we aint gonna see or hear "Crickey" anymore......

Adieu Mate...

In addition to being a great conservationist and animal advocate, it was obvious that Steve adored his wife and children, as they adored him.

My heart breaks for Terri and their children in this loss.

Wish I knew where I could email condolences...Animal Planet Steve Irwin pages lock up when you go to the Croc Hunter section...must be a zillion people doing just that.

Well, he had to die at some point, and I think we all could guess that an animal was going to kill him, so I guess it was just a matter of time, and by the way, he wasn't bitten by the sting ray, it was the stign rays poisonous barb that went through his heart *OUCH*

How ought to he like it if someone taunted him in his homestead at any given time AND unexpectedly? I basically desire his little ones are a lot a lot less zealous about one of those labor.....

I just found out myself...I'm so sad over his loss. He was an inspiration to me as a teacher and a conservationist. I have used his programs for years to teach my children about animals living in the world and conservation and compassion.

Not so shocked that he died as much as I would think he would ALWAYS have a sort of EMS team around as well as some sort of precautions for things depending on where he was ädventuring".
