I still cannot believe this even despite the fact his lifestyle was dangerous. And of all the animals to be killed by...a sting ray. I've heard they were very docile animals unless agitated. I am still in shock....I just saw his commercial for his new marine show on animal planet before my mom called me with the news.....

A stingray stung him in the heart. It's thought he died instantly. Google it.

Yes, very sad. But he died doing what he loved. And how many of us have that what he has had. Very sad indeed.. he leaves behind a beautiful daughter and wife.

Too bad. He was an entertaining guy.

The stingray is the most surprising part about his death. I always thought he might be killed by an animal, but expected it to be a crocodile or some other Australian predator.

Yah i know. Thats really sad that it was a stingray. The guy that was on the boat with him said that it stung his chest and went right through his heart.

No way can I believe it, I've just found out on here 5 mins ago and looked up the story through the Sun newspaper, its a shame he was really good at what he did. I really feel for his wife and kids. God I just cant f*****g believe it.

I can't believe it either. I'm still in shock. He loved his animals so much and he did a lot for animal preservation. STEVE IRWIN ROCKS!!! I will miss him.

I'm just as shocked as everyone else he was a fantastic bloke to watch. He as achieved so much in his life. My heart goes out to his family

I'm not suprised he died on the job, but I am a bit shocked that it was a stingray!

Though not an avid fan, I thought he was cool, he was one crazy SOB, but to die in such a way was near impossible for someone so in tune to the animal world.
