First of all, I can't believe these religious type questions keep showing up in the science section. I'm not here to criticize those who have religious faiths, but please keep them in the section that is specially designated for religion.

Second of all, there is absolutely no way that the earth was formed just 6,000 years ago. Consider the diversity of life, the fossil record, the geomagnetic record, the age of the solar system, plate tectonics, landforms, diversity of DNA in humans...the list goes on and on. Anybody with a reasonable amount of intelligence and willing to have an open mind on the overwhelming evidence of geology, chemistry, astronomy, physics, and biology knows that the earth is much older than what religion states.

According to the USGS and other leading scientists around the world, the current best guess for the age of the Earth is 4.54 billion years. Kep in mind there is no exact number, and the earth wasn't created instantly, so the definition of the age of the earth is arguable.

Ancient rocks exceeding 3.5 billion years in age are found on all of Earth's continents. The oldest rocks on Earth found so far are the Acasta Gneisses in northwestern Canada near Great Slave Lake (4.03 Ga -thats an abbreviation for billion years ago) and the Isua Supracrustal rocks in West Greenland (3.7 to 3.8 Ga), but well-studied rocks nearly as old are also found in the Minnesota River Valley and northern Michigan (3.5-3.7 Ga), in Swaziland (3.4-3.5 Ga), and in Western Australia (3.4-3.6 Ga). These ancient rocks have been dated by a number of radiometric dating methods and the consistency of the results give scientists confidence that the ages are correct to within a few percent. An interesting feature of these ancient rocks is that they are not from any sort of "primordial crust" but are lava flows and sediments deposited in shallow water, an indication that Earth history began well before these rocks were deposited. In Western Australia, single zircon crystals found in younger sedimentary rocks have radiometric ages of as much as 4.3 Ga, making these tiny crystals the oldest materials to be found on Earth so far. The source rocks for these zircon crystals have not yet been found. The ages measured for Earth's oldest rocks and oldest crystals show that the Earth is at least 4.3 Gain age but do not reveal the exact age of Earth's formation.

The best age for the Earth (4.54 Ga) is based on old, presumed single-stage leads coupled with the Pb ratios in troilite from iron meteorites, specifically the Canyon Diablo meteorite. In addition, mineral grains (zircon) with U-Pb ages of 4.4 Ga have recently been reported from sedimentary rocks in west-central Australia.

Now, if you are still not convinced, the rocks bought back from the moon gave radiometric dates of around 4.4 Ga. That wasn't a coincidence! Hard to dispute that kind of evidence.

With all due respect to all the religions, perhaps the big difference between religion and science is that religions are forced to believe (or is it blind faith?), and scientists make up their own mind based on hard facts and reproducible experiments. Science isn't perfect, and there are a lot of unknowns that we need to work on.

I'm far from an expert on religion, but a Catholic friend of mine recently told me that the Catholic church now accepts evolution within its teachings.

Hey, guys, we shouldn't hurt any body's feelings. I personally respect every religious leader. Not because that they each created new religions, but since they didn't hesitate to sacrifice even their own lives for the sake of what they believed, and for what they thought would be best for the common people. All of them aimed at peace. We shouldn't fight among us to ruin their common goal.
Talking about science, I think Einstein was QUITE a good scientist, what do you say? He once said that two things may be always constant. One the limitlessness of the universe and the second the limited capacity of human brain. He was more certain for the second one. Science is the outcome of human curiosity. It never tells you to believe some thing, but it encourages to know yourself.
From radio active dating experiments it has been proposed that the earth was born on around 4.567 billion years. Below are some references. One should go through them to KNOW how scientists can propose such. If she/he has some doubts the person can straight way contact the under mentioned authors of those publishing's.

Which authentic book of Islam says that earth was created 6000 years ago. In my knowledge, no Islamic authority says so. Islam is a pro-scietific way of life. Islam will never says such stupid things.

I do respect the Bible. Bible also would not have said. The Bible I refer is the original bilble in its purest form as was given to Prophen Jesus Christ ( Peace be Upon him).

Yes, Quran says the chronolgoy of how the earth was created unlike the corrupt bible (today's one which has gone umpteenth number of editions and revisions) says.

Yes, I believe that. The earth was created in approximately 4,000 B.C. making it 6,000 years old. The reason that there are things (like mountains) that seem to indicate great age is that God created an "adult" universe (if you want to call it that). For example, God created Adam and Eve as adults and not as babies. That meant that they were not as old as they appeared to be.
