I think hvnmorefun has the best answer I've read so far. To say that Steve Irwing "got what he deserved" can be seen as a vindictive statement or a pure factual one, but, . . . no, it would be hard even to call it a purely factual statement. Stupid or vindictive, yeah, but not purely factual. Hvnmorefun's brother who died didn't "get what he deserved", and he was "playing dangerously" maybe since he was carrying a powerful rifle at some point during the hunt, and was out to kill an "innocent" animal, but that's how human beings have survived all these eons and now is an enjoyable sport and wonderful way to feed one's self and one's family. Steve Irwin was making a living and having fun and maybe, as I'm sure he and all the "environmentalists" would like to think, was trying to help the planet, and he took certain risks that he was well aware of, and one of his risks was just a bit too close, so, he's dead. I had fun watching him even though his "excitement" was a bit too much for me at times so I stopped watching his show, and moreso once his wife became a part of the show, but I can still respect his life, his nature, and his death. God Bless him, and God Bless you.

It's a shame that it happened and my heart goes out to his family. I'm sure he was aware that his line of work involved risks; however he chose to do it anyways. I admire that he put himself at risk in order to better help people understand wild animals. So no, I don't think he deserved it, but I'm sure he would have wanted to go that way rather than, say, an auto wreck.

I think Steve Irwin needs to feed Mr.Bill to the crocs.

I am very shocked by the news of Steve's passing. It was a very rare tragedy. Steve died doing what he loved to do. Did he deserve to die?! No! That's a very childish way to think. But i guess you will get what you DESERVE when u die..right? Yea..
To everyone who has been touched by this wonderful man..we all send prayers to his family. This will be a very hard time for them. He was a wonderful man who taught us alot. God bless.

crazy accident. but there is a risk in his line of work. sharks, gators, crocs, snakes, all have the ability to do the unexpected.
Sorry to hear that he died. Sting rays are normally not fatal.

Of course he didn't. He was a good entertainer but I do hate the way he wrestled the croc with his baby in his arms! Thats just horrible. But I think that he should have been more careful but I will miss him.

I can't say that he deserved it but I do feel he had the best 44 years of life that I think anyone of us could possibly have. Money, fame and he lived his life quite happily. That is a hell of alot more than most of us plain folks will have.

He died doing something he loves which most of us will not be that fortunate. Most of us are complaining about our job, our boss and working environment.

My heart goes to Teri and his young children. This is way too sad. Hope Teri would be brave and strong for the sake of their children.

Think it is fated, of all the body it can poke, it chose the heart.

In most cases, no one really deserves to die.. But the decisions he made lead up to his death.. He put himself in harms way as a career, hobby, etc... I'm sure he knew the risks involved. But no, that doesn't mean he got what he deserved.

Given the unusual circumstances, I guess it was just his time. And God saw fit to have him finish on earth doing something he loved to do. My brother died while deer hunting. I always took comfort from the fact that his last minutes where spent in a way he would have choosen.
