It means a gift, freely given, which is of huge benefit to the person receiving it. It's from the Exodus story, where the Israelites were starving and God sent them food - a sort of sweet wafer, which they called manna/mannah. Because God sent them food, the story goes, they did not die of starvation.

"Man hu", or "manna" in the Hebrew language is translated as "what is it".
Manna is the name of the food miraculously produced for the Israelites in the desert in the book of Exodus. Manna ceased to appear when the Israelites first harvested their crops in their new homeland.
The bible explains...
Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will vain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law or no (16:4).
And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground (16:14). And when the children of Israel saw if, they said one to another It is manna: for they wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the Lord hath given you to eat.

God told Moses he would "rain bread from heaven" for them. He provided Manna, a new food that appeared with the dew each morning as small, white, round pieces.

It generally means a gift. In the Bible God gave the Israelites manna from heaven to eat while they were in the dessert after they fled from the Egyptians.

God sent manna to the Jews when they were in the desert escaping from Egypt. Today it is when we receive some unexpected benefit.
