Withdrawal of attention.

We can hear and we can see and we can feel. We simply choose not to pay attention until something urgent (movement in the room, alarm clock, phone) comes up.

All of the senses are working but it is not consciously processed. If you grow cold in the night, you may wake up, which is your 'touch' sense. If you hear the alarm, you may wake up, and many light sleepers will wake up if exposed to light.

that's not correct actually, we do hear and feel things, otherwise you wouldn't wake up by the alarm clock or if you'd have to go to the bathroom, it's just that your system ignores most of the noise and doesn't react unless it thinks it's quit urgent!

Because our mind is not incontact with our senses.
Good.
