How much morality shuld be taught in schools, and how much should be left unto the student's own mind?

I believe that more scould be done in schools - not by way of religion but of medicine, psychology, social science and a people friendly view of evolution (where cooperation's benifits are taught).

Morality has to be taught at home first. It doesn't do a teacher much good when the student is in an environment where morality is in question. I have worked in youth groups where the person's parents are prostitutes, family members in jail or in gangs, drug addicts, and alcoholics. A person wishes they could take the child out of that environment, but the courts and government regulations prevent you from doing that in most cases. There are teachers that do care, but hard to do anything when the regulations 'tie your hands behind your backs'.

Morality is taught in the home/family, community, church, and school mostly by example. It cannot be learned from books.

Throughout history, it has been impossible to legislate morality.
Many have tried, all have failed.

Morality is a product and condition of the human soul or spirit.
Morality is not reasoned by the mind.

Guidlines can be offered, but ultimately the individual must choose to stay within those suggested guidelines, or choose to stray outside them.

If youth are taught the precious value and beauty of all life, then moral goodness will eventually develop as a product of the reverence, appreciation, and love toward all living creatures.

Its not up to schools to teach morality, a lot is absorbed before school age
the job belongs to the parents, if the live with good morals and teach their children the same and why its good to have them then the results should be evident
its too late by the time they go to school, and also puts too much responsibility on the teachers who are there to teach academic subjects not moral ones

Everyone should be teaching good morals, by example if no other way. It should be an ongoing process.
