its the carpet solutions that makes a big difference.. for spot cleaning i really like Folex instant carpet spot remover, (I can buy it in the grocery store) it has gotten every spot out that i have had, and excellent for between cleanings. A little hint.. get as much of the soap out of the carpet once clean. Left over soap in the carpet hangs on to dirt. Once i clean my carpets, I always run my machine once with water only, you'd be surprised how much soap comes up.

Yes they do work well. However, a professional carpet cleaner can do the job much better... albeit at a higher price.

You have just reminded me what it is I have been trying to remember that I need to get done before winter... thank you.

they can do well if things arent horridly dirty, but if you call one of the carpet cleaners that has a machine in the truck and a million miles of hose, those are sooooooooooo much stronger at getting things out. however expensive.

it depend on what kind, a steam cleaner is very good using the right cleaner in it and staying off the floor until it completely dry
