Does it hurt the carpet since it takes away a lot of fur from the carpet ?

if its fairly good quality carpet it will not hurt it.

I'm not sure it will hurt your carpet short term, but it will in the long run since vaccuming on too low of a setting will not actually "clean" your carpet, essentially ruining your carpet.

You should use the setting for the heigth of your carpet. If you use a lower setting it will put to much pull on your vacume. You will burn up your belt or your sweeper!

It will not clean as effectively as using the correct pile setting. The brush needs to be able to move freely; that's why you have different settings for different carpets.
