Insurance company's will in most cases cover a sewer back up. If water comes through the walls or windows and flooded the basement. Insurance companies do not cover. And now Insurance companies do not cover Mold issues anymore.

insurance premiums are always raised the next year if you make a claim during the 'just expired' insurance period. But I would suggest making the claim anyway as it will most likely be a much higher amount of money than any increase you will have to face. Saying that, be careful before you make a claim and read through your policy very carefully. Do not claim more than you can, make sure you are covered for flooding etc (in a general household policy it should be).

Well, he should be purchasing both backup of sewers and drains coverage, which is an endorsement on a homeowners policy, and he should also purchase flood insurance. Keep in mind, flood insurance is a government insurance, and it needs "triggers" to kick in, which include having damage to more than one premises. Sorry, nothing you can do NOW, except repair the damage for this loss out of pocket. He might want to leave that basement unfinished for a while . . .

Not always in the event of "Acts of God". Not like auto ins.

Hazards that cause injury will affect ins. rates.

It's not cheap to replace a laminate floor.

You should determine the cause. If it's rising water, check your flood insurance. Wind blown is a different matter. Your policy should explain the coverage on one or the other.

Does your insurance cover flooding for one!

Also, do you know what your deductible is? if so, is the damage more expensive than the deductible or is it in the same range?

if its less expensive than the deductibles cost than you would be best of to fix it on your own..

I think it depends if you have specific insurance. So yes, call your insurance company and see if it's covered.

your premium will probably not go up, but even if it did ,it would not go up by the cost of a new floor, and they should organise it all for you too
