Oh what a night ! D.A.R Constitution Hall in Washington D.C. The Eddie Murphy Delirious concert, where he wore the red leather ? That was the funniest comedy performance, with the most unbelievable material and preformed by a comic genius that I have ever seen. The DVD is cool , but to see him preform live is *** kickin'. In which category do you speak ? Comic or actor ? My choice as comedian is Eddie Murphy...hands down. Martin Lawrence is a much better actor. If you want to know the all around best and certainly the best comic in history. Look no farther than Richard Pryor. The man can make a corpse smile and giggle.

Eddie all the way .. better comedian ... and better in straight roles too .. Martin Lawrence is funny but I always feel as though he is an Eddie clone..
I present Big Momma's House vs the Nutty Professor as an example ..
Also Eddie was 'the original' way back in the 80's ..
Although I will give the proper respect due to the legend mentioned elsewhere in this thread Richard Pryor .. who if it wasnt for his illness would still be whooping them both today (and I have heard Eddie say the same).

I'd say Eddie Murphy for his early stand-up work - Delerious
And Martin for everything he's done :-)
