Perhaps the energy needed to run the motor comes from the candle ... place the (non-lit end) of the candle .. the base of the candle into the top of the ice cube .. it would take a long time for the candle melt down to the point of reaching the ice cube. Therefore, the ice cube would not melt very quickly.

Light the candle to see the area. Put the ice of the motor exhaust. Jump start the engine. The force from the exhaust will hurl the ice to the other side of the river bank.

Throw the motor in the water so an wave picks up the icecube and takes it to the other side. You will need the candle to do this by night, otherwise you won't be able to see a thing.

do not use the motor... catch hold of the candle on the one hand and the ice cube on the other and then wade across the water
