how many times do you feed him?

My son is 4 1/2 months old and weighs 14lbs as of 2 weeks ago. He is 24 3/4 in. long. He still will only drink about 4 oz. per feeding, sometimes less and he wants to eat every 3 hours. I nurse him but also will supplement formula every now and then. I asked my doctor and she said anywhere between 3-6 oz is normal at this age. I tried the reice cereal in the bottle and it did not help. If anything it made him more miserable due to it being harder for newborns/infants to digest. hope this helps.

Your son will gradually increase his feedings on his own. Every baby increases at a different rate. If he is finishing his bottles just add another ounce in the bottle. Do not forget to burp about halfway through the bottle. If he is only drinking 2 oz at a time burp him at the 1 oz mark. He may be feeling full because of the air in his little tummy.
As long as you are getting at least 6 wet diapers a day do not worry.

I have a 10 week old daughter and her feedings vary from feeding to feeding. There are times when she will only take 1 oz. and wait 2-3 hours for the next feeding. I am in very close contact with our pediatrician due to severe acid reflux and her feedings are logged. The rule for seeing if your child is getting enough is 2-2 1/2 oz. per pound of body weight. Log feedings for seven days and if the baby is not taking in enough calories (200 per oz.) call your pediatrician. Also, smaller feedings are easier on your baby's tummy.

If you are feeding him every 2-3 hours, than not good. They should be about every 4 hours for a feeding. Also, change the nipples to be a bigger size. Sometimes the slow flow of the milk is too much work. Find a quite boring place to feed, no distractions.

Dont listen to people who tell you to add cereal to the bottle!!! This is not the done thing anymore as it causes choking. Space out his feeds a bit more, for instance if you feed him every 3 hours make it 4 hours, he may still be hungry at 3 hours but when he does feed he will hopefully take more.
Good luck!

My daughter did exactly that. I think its the normal quantity.
But at any rate try pulling the feeding bottle away from his mouth and then release it. This will create some form of vaccum and pull milk into his mouth. Relax a little ok.

have you talked to his doctor?
how often do you feed him?
he should be up to a little bit more than what he is @ now. but you didn't say either how much he weighs or how long he is..
I would add a little bit of rice cereal to the bottle ( 1 table spoon per 3 ozs.) just to see how he does.

My baby is going to be four months old and i asked almost the same question but my baby is drinking 4oz and i wanted to know when to up it to 60oz,I also asked a baby nurse. The response was if he starts wanting to eat every hour its probley a good sign to try to go to 4oz for your baby.He will tell you when he's hungry. It all depends on him.

My girl did exactly e same thing when she was a baby. due to flow of e milk flow being too slow, and she always fall asleep. but don't worry too much, i know mamy babies never quite drink e"requried amount" of milk for their age. as long as there is many wet nappies and weight gain, and baby is happy, all is well! :)
